About Balfolk under the stars

An evening of balfolk at Lido Tre Archi in Fermo, Marche: singing and dance workshop, shared dinner, and live concert by the duo Di Doux, Sara Pierleoni and Giuseppe Grassi. Traditional French, Occitan, and Italian dance music, in a convivial atmosphere open to all, with or without experience. A participatory event organized by the Balfolk Fermo group together with Folk Ancona, where you dance in a circle and let yourself be carried away by the vibrations of voice, accordion, and piano.

An evening of balfolk in Fermo

Balfolk under the stars is an evening dedicated to traditional dance and music that takes place at the Centro Sociale Luigi Salvadori, in the Lido Tre Archi district, on the coast of Fermo, in the Marche region. The event revolves around the concert by the duo Di Doux and offers a complete experience, starting with a dance workshop and culminating in live dancing, in the true balfolk spirit: not a show to watch, but a participatory party where the audience dances together.

What is balfolk?

Balfolk is an evening of couple and group folk dances, primarily of French and Occitan origin, which has also gained popularity in Italy in recent years. These are accessible dances — bourrée, mazurka, scottish, waltz, circle dances — that are learned on the spot and danced all together, without the need for a fixed partner or prior experience. It is precisely this convivial and inclusive dimension that is at the heart of the offering by the Balfolk Fermo group, which organizes the evening in collaboration with Folk Ancona.

The duo Di Doux

The stars of the concert are Sara Pierleoni and Giuseppe Grassi, known as Di Doux, a duo from the Marche region who have been bringing the magic of traditional French, Occitan, and Italian dance music to stages for over ten years. Their repertoire, largely sung, draws from the traditions of Brittany, Gascony, and Poitou, with incursions into Brazilian and Latin American rhythms. Their sound alternates between overwhelming energy and delicate, poetic melodies, built on the interplay of voice, accordion, piano, and percussion.

An event for the folk community

The evening is designed for those who already frequent the world of folk dancing, but also for those approaching it for the first time: the initial workshop and the 'first steps' session allow anyone to join the dance floor naturally. Between the workshop and the concert, there is a shared dinner, where everyone brings something to contribute to the table: a typical ritual of folk festivals that strengthens the sense of community. This initiative helps to keep the traditional scene of the province of Fermo alive, animating the Marche coastline with music and dance.
