Balestro del Girifalco (August edition)

On August 14, 2025, Massa Marittima experienced the summer edition of the Balestro del Girifalco, the 131st modern edition of the event, dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the birth of the Free Commune of Massa.

The program spanned several days: on August 12, the Balestruzzo, the young crossbowmen's competition, at the Cassero Senese; on August 13, the presentation of the Palio at Palazzo dell'Abbondanza, the procession, and the drawing of the shooting order, followed by the Terzieri dinners. On August 14, in the evening, the historical procession with over 150 participants reached the Piazza del Duomo, where flag-wavers preceded the crossbow competition between the Borgo, Cittannova, and Cittavecchia Terzieri to win the Palio.
