Edition 2025 — Balbido and Rango Wood Sculpture Symposium

The 36th edition of the Balbido and Rango International Wood Sculpture Symposium, held in the summer of 2025 on the theme 'Magical and Wild', was a female-led and highly international event, with artists arriving from Serbia, Spain, and Mexico. The winner was Nicola Cozzio with 'Guardian of Secrets', an owl carved in wood, judged to be symbolic of our times.

36th edition — "Magical and Wild"

The 2025 edition of the Balbido and Rango International Wood Sculpture Symposium brought the theme "Magical and Wild" to the villages of Bleggio Superiore, interpreted by the sculptors during a week of outdoor work. It was a special edition, female-led and international, with the presence of artists from Serbia, Spain, and Mexico alongside Italian masters.

The main prize went to Nicola Cozzio for the work "Guardian of Secrets", a wooden owl that the jury deemed capable of fully representing the theme, with very precise formal and plastic aspects and a symbolic value for our times. Special mentions included works by Sara Cereghin, Marta Gutierrez, Marija Markovic, Diana Villasenor, and Marta Zucchinali, as well as recognition for the symposium veteran Ilio Buffa.

As per tradition, the sculptures created have gone on to enrich the permanent heritage of works that, year after year, dot the streets of Balbido and Rango.

Highlights

"Magical and Wild" theme; female-led and international edition (artists from Serbia, Spain, and Mexico); victory of Nicola Cozzio with the owl "Guardian of Secrets".
