Contemporary art entering homes, in the heart of Jesi
Arte Domiciliata is a project that overturns the usual way of experiencing art: instead of bringing the public to a gallery, it brings works and artists into a house. The venue is the house-studio of architect Giancarlo Ercoli, at Via Mura Orientali 4, in the historic centre of Jesi, in the province of Ancona. Here, domestic space becomes a place of culture, meeting, and listening, where the artwork is not distanced but enters into dialogue with the viewer.
The exhibition 'Florilegi della Soglia' (also referred to as 'Florilegi sulla soglia') is the first stage of the Arte Domiciliata 2026 project, curated by Andrea Carnevali. The common thread is the flower as a figure of dwelling: an image that unfolds in a progressive order and accompanies the visitor from appearance to transformation, from matter to memory, up to a broader reflection on time and history.
The exhibition brings together five artists who dialogue with the house's environments and with the watercolours of Giancarlo Ercoli himself:
Each author exhibits a small group of works, designed to relate to the rooms and furnishings: not a neutral gallery wall, but a welcoming atmosphere that invites slow and close-up viewing.
The idea has its roots in 2019, when Ercoli inaugurated the 'Domus Ercoli' cycle in his own home, which later evolved into the current 'arte domiciliata' (home art) format: a calendar of events on weekends, each dedicated to different artists. The project removes the artwork from the neutrality of conventional exhibition spaces to return it to a more intimate, collected, and relational dimension, where the artist's house-studio becomes a place of passage and encounter.
The setting is Jesi, the birthplace of Frederick II and Giovan Battista Pergolesi, rich in historic palaces and museums. Arte Domiciliata adds to this heritage a different and intimate way of encountering contemporary art in the Marche: not in a museum, but on the doorstep.
The first stage of Arte Domiciliata 2026 brought the exhibition 'Florilegi della Soglia' to Jesi, curated by Andrea Carnevali. The flower was chosen as the guiding theme and conceptual device, capable of leading the visitor from appearance to transformation and from matter to memory.
The exhibition featured works by Carlo Iacomucci, Simona Bramati, Maria Grazia Focanti, Cristina Messora (with 'Fiori di Ku'), and Paolo Monina (with calla lilies), in dialogue with Giancarlo Ercoli's watercolours within the spaces of the house-studio at Via Mura Orientali 4.
