Art Nouveau Week – Messina

In 2025, Art Nouveau Week celebrated its seventh edition from July 8th to 14th, with the theme of the Butterfly, a symbol of transformation. The event, promoted by the Associazione Italia Liberty and curated by Andrea Speziali, had a strong Sicilian presence: between Agrigento, Messina, Sciacca, Canicattì, and Caltagirone, apartments and villas with Liberty furnishings and frescoes were opened to the public, while thematic tours and itineraries among historic stations linked Catania and Palermo. The general program offered two conferences per day throughout the week, dedicated to architecture, decorative arts, fashion, illustration, cuisine, and literature. In Messina, a city rebuilt after the 1908 earthquake, the festival offered an opportunity to re-examine the city's modernist heritage from an educational perspective.
