Edition 2025 — Arbëreshë Easter

In 2025, Contessa Entellina once again celebrated its Arbëreshë Easter according to the Greek-Byzantine rite, with the usual evocative cycle of Holy Week rites: from the Lazarus chant to the Good Friday processions, from the midnight Resurrection on Saturday to the distribution of blessed red eggs on Easter Sunday, featuring young women in traditional Arbëreshë costumes.

The 2025 edition of the Arbëreshë Easter in Contessa Entellina confirmed the vitality of a tradition preserved for over five centuries by the Albanian-speaking community of the Belice Valley. The Greek-Byzantine rite celebrations took place throughout Holy Week, from the Friday of Lazarus to Easter Sunday.

As per tradition, the most deeply felt moments were the procession of the Christòs Anèsti on Holy Saturday night and, on Easter Sunday, the solemn Divine Liturgy in the Greek church, the procession toward the Church of the Madonna della Favara, and the distribution of red eggs blessed by the papàs, offered by young women in Arbëreshë costumes. An event that attracts visitors every year and strengthens the cultural identity of the village.
