Nature photography among the villages of the Sibillini Mountains, starting from Belforte del Chienti
The Appennino Photo Festival is a widespread event dedicated to nature and landscape photography that annually enlivens the villages of the Macerata Province hinterland, in the heart of Marche and at the foot of the Monti Sibillini. Founded in 2019 on the initiative of the association Ph3 and its collective Photonica3, the festival has grown to become a nationally recognized event for enthusiasts of images, nature, and mountains.
Belforte del Chienti, a small municipality in the Province of Macerata, is one of the key centers of the festival, along with Caldarola, Camporotondo di Fiastrone, Cessapalombo, Serrapetrona, and Tolentino. The village, enclosed within its castle walls overlooking the Chienti valley, houses the Church of Sant'Eustachio with the famous polyptych by Giovanni Boccati from 1468 and the former monastery of San Lorenzo, destined to become a School of Nature Photography: a unique training center in Italy, funded as part of NextAppennino. It was in Belforte, in the former Oratory of Piazza Umberto I, that the preview opening the seventh edition was held on January 31, 2026.
The seventh edition revolves around the theme "Regenerate. Where the journey heals", with green as the symbolic color. Artistic Director Stefano Ciocchetti summarizes it as follows: to regenerate means to rebuild, to preserve memory, and to transform wounds into opportunities. The reference is also to the Franciscan Year and the journeys of rebirth that cross a territory deeply marked by the 2016 earthquake. Photography here becomes a tool for redemption and storytelling, capable of shining a spotlight on a fragile and beautiful Apennine region.
The 2026 edition is structured in several phases: the opening with the retrospective exhibition "Nel segno della luce" by the Photonica3 collective at Forte Malatesta in Ascoli Piceno (April), the summer heart of the summer weeks between the end of June and the beginning of July, and an autumn session linked to the Impressum competition. For nature, mountain, and great photography lovers, the Appennino Photo Festival is a unique opportunity to discover the Sibillini Mountains and the villages of the Macerata area with a new perspective.

The chosen theme, "Regenerate. Where the journey heals", links the Franciscan Year of journeys with the redemption of the Sibillini territory after the 2016 earthquake.
