Ancient Palio of Viano

The Vejano palio in the summer of 2025

The 2025 edition of the Ancient Palio of Viano fits into the revitalization path promoted by the Municipality of Vejano, following the editions held on August 27, 2023, and August 25, 2024, the latter won by jockey Gianluca Cecaloni riding Bella Senz'Anima. The traditional appointment of the event is the last Sunday of August, in honor of the patron saint Sant'Orsio.

The formula is the one handed down by tradition, which dates the palio back to 1582: thoroughbred horses at least four years old, ridden bareback, compete two at a time along Corso Umberto I, on a course of about 530 meters, with qualifying heats, semi-finals, and a final that awards the banner. Detailed reports for the 2025 days are not available online; the continuity of the tradition was confirmed in the spring of 2026, when the Lazio Region allocated 20,000 euros for the following edition, scheduled for August 30, 2026.
