Ancient Carnival of Sutri

The 2025 Sutri Carnival

From February 23rd to March 4th, 2025, Sutri, in the province of Viterbo, celebrated its Ancient Carnival with the traditional program: the arrival of the giant King Carnival puppet, parades of allegorical floats and masked groups through the historic center, the saltarello dance in the Piazza del Comune, and dance parties. There was no shortage of typical seasonal sweets, such as frappe and castagnole. The festival concluded on March 4th, Shrove Tuesday, with the funeral procession and the propitiatory burning of King Carnival in the square, a ritual symbolizing the end of the old year and the arrival of spring. The event was organized by the Pro Loco with the Municipality of Sutri and the Carnival Committee.
