Almabtrieb in Taufers im Münstertal (Mitteralm)

The 2025 edition of the Almabtrieb in Taufers im Münstertal took place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, with the descent of the cattle from the Mitteralm, the pasture in the Avingatal above Taufers im Münstertal, in the Upper Vinschgau. After the summer spent on the high-altitude pastures, the herds were brought back to the valley according to the ancient custom of the autumn transhumance: the cows that had produced the most milk during the season were adorned with flowers, large bells, and head ornaments as a token of recognition.

The day at the Festplatz at the entrance to the Avingatal opened with a religious service, followed by musical entertainment by the Duo Sesvenna; the livestock reached the square around 1:00 PM, greeted by the celebrating inhabitants. The arrival of the herds and the herdsmen was celebrated with a folk festival with food and drinks, confirming the strong community value of this custom, experienced by the entire village as a moment of thanksgiving for the safe return of the livestock.
