Almabtrieb im Martelltal / Cattle Drive in Val Martello

The 2025 edition of the Almabtrieb im Martelltal took place on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the Freizeitzentrum Trattla in Val Martello. After a summer spent on the high-altitude pastures of the Ortler-Cevedale group, the herds were led back to the valley according to the ancient custom of the autumn transhumance: the animals, adorned with garlands, flowers, mountain herbs, and bells, traveled the trails to the Trattla center, where they were welcomed with a village festival.

The meeting time was set for 10:00 AM. The day continued with the drawing of the Glückstopf, the sale of alpine products—cheese and butter—and traditional music. The event, organized by the Bauernjugend Martell, the Bäuerinnen, and the Alminteressentschaft Martell, confirmed the strong community value of this festival, experienced as a moment of thanksgiving for the safe return of the livestock and a celebration of the bond between the Val Martello community and its mountains.
