About Adria Carnival

In Adria, in the heart of Polesine, Carnival takes two complementary forms: a photographic exhibition of vintage posters and costumes at Sala Cordella and the grand masked parade that invades the historic centre. It's a March event that intertwines visual memory, cinema, and the popular joy of the procession, with masked groups, a brass band, and workshops for children. An original way to experience Carnival, where the historical narrative of the feast coexists with its loudest and most colourful version in the square.

A Carnival with Two Souls in Adria

In Adria, a city of art in Polesine, in the province of Rovigo, Carnival is not just a parade: it's also a story. The event combines a grand masked parade with a photographic exhibition dedicated to vintage posters and costumes, hosted at Sala Cordella on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.

The Exhibition at Sala Cordella

The exhibition offers a journey through photography, cinema, and music, with archival materials, posters, and costumes that evoke the fantasy world of cinema and musical films. At the heart of the exhibition is the short film Amor Empio Tiranno, a refined encounter between opera, contemporary classical music, and cinema, inspired by the verses of the 17th-century poet Isabella Canali Andreini.

The Parade in the Historic Centre

The most anticipated moment is the masked parade that crosses the centre: a festive procession with masked groups also from the provinces of Padova and Venezia, accompanied by the Villadose brass band. Music, joy, and entertainment for children accompany the route to Piazza Garibaldi.

Organisers

The event is the result of a collaboration between the Municipality of Adria, the Associazione Polesine Terra Emersa APS, the L'immagine in Movimento Archive, and the Pro Loco of Adria, with the involvement of local associations and businesses.

Adria Carnival โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition combined the photographic exhibition at Sala Cordella (March 5-20) and the grand masked parade on March 15, with a procession, band, and workshops for children.

In 2026, the Adria Carnival was divided between an exhibition and a street party. The photographic exhibition at Sala Cordella, open from March 5 to 20, featured vintage posters and costumes alongside materials from the short film Amor Empio Tiranno. The grand masked parade animated the centre on March 15.
