Acchianata 'a Madonna

The 2025 edition of the Acchianata 'a Madonna took place on the evening of August 15th in San Mauro Castelverde, in the province of Palermo, inside the 16th-century church of Santa Maria de' Francis. The local community, together with visitors and many emigrants who returned for the mid-August holiday in the Madonie, witnessed the ascent of the Virgin's statue, lifted by the ancient apparatus of winches and ropes.

As per the centuries-old tradition, the opening of the tomb, the descent of the angels with the crown of stars, and the religious chants accompanied the performance, confirming the strong identity and devotional value of this event for the Municipality of San Mauro Castelverde.
