The theatre review for families at the Vaccaj Theatre in Tolentino
In the historic centre of Tolentino, in the province of Macerata, the Nicola Vaccaj Theatre dedicates a review each season entirely to its youngest audience: "A Teatro, Bambini!". Organized by Compagnia della Rancia under the RanciaVerdeBlu brand, the children's season accompanies families in the Marche region from November to March with a series of Sunday events, complemented by morning performances for schools in the city and province.
The guiding principle of the review is simple and precious: to introduce children to the world of theatre, stimulating their imagination, curiosity, and love for stories. Here, it's the children who invite the adults, reversing the usual dynamic and transforming the show into a moment to be experienced together. The guest companies are among the most established in Italian children's theatre: from Umbria's Fontemaggiore to Rome's Teatro Verde, from Teatro Pirata to Veneto's Febo Teatro, and of course, the host Compagnia della Rancia.
The programme blends different languages to speak to all ages. Great fairy tales are rewritten with irony and poetry, such as Cinderella, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, or Peter Pan; circus arts take the stage, even reinterpreting Shakespearean classics; the music and verses of Gianni Rodari become a show. There are also puppet shows, dance, and explorations into the educational value of theatre, in a lineup designed to surprise without ever sacrificing lightness.
More than just a programme, "A Teatro, Bambini!" is an eagerly awaited event for families in Tolentino and the Macerata hinterland: an opportunity on Sunday afternoons to switch off screens and share the emotion of live performance with their children. With affordable ticket prices and a format also designed for schools, the review confirms the Vaccaj Theatre's role as a cultural hub for the area and a place for training tomorrow's audiences.
The 2025/2026 season of "A Teatro, Bambini!" featured six Sunday afternoon performances at the Nicola Vaccaj Theatre in Tolentino, alongside morning shows for schools in the city and province of Macerata. The programme alternated classic fairy tales, circus arts, music, and puppets, with direction and production by Compagnia della Rancia alongside notable national guest companies.
