Edition 2025 — A City and its Patron Saint
The 2025 edition of the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the city and the Diocese of Massa Carrara-Pontremoli, followed the usual liturgical calendar in the Basilica Cathedral of Massa. The preparatory triduum took place from Tuesday, September 30 to Thursday, October 2, at 9:00 PM with the singing of Vespers; on Friday, October 3, also at 9:00 PM, the commemoration of the Transitus of the seraphic father Francis was celebrated, presided over by the bishop. On Saturday, October 4, the day of the feast, at 10:30 AM, the solemn pontifical mass was held with the participation of the bishops of Tuscany and neighboring dioceses, as well as civil and military authorities; in the afternoon, at 5:45 PM, the singing of Vespers with the induction of new canons into the Cathedral Chapter, and at 6:30 PM, the Holy Mass. In the city, the festive day featured the traditional fair with classic stalls selling food specialties, sweets, and toys.
