Edition 2025 — A City and its Patron Saint

In 2025, Massa celebrated its patron saint, Saint Francis of Assisi, with the traditional calendar of celebrations in the Cathedral, from the preparatory triduum to the solemn pontifical mass on October 4, accompanied by the historic city fair with stalls in the center.

The 2025 edition of the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the city and the Diocese of Massa Carrara-Pontremoli, followed the usual liturgical calendar in the Basilica Cathedral of Massa. The preparatory triduum took place from Tuesday, September 30 to Thursday, October 2, at 9:00 PM with the singing of Vespers; on Friday, October 3, also at 9:00 PM, the commemoration of the Transitus of the seraphic father Francis was celebrated, presided over by the bishop. On Saturday, October 4, the day of the feast, at 10:30 AM, the solemn pontifical mass was held with the participation of the bishops of Tuscany and neighboring dioceses, as well as civil and military authorities; in the afternoon, at 5:45 PM, the singing of Vespers with the induction of new canons into the Cathedral Chapter, and at 6:30 PM, the Holy Mass. In the city, the festive day featured the traditional fair with classic stalls selling food specialties, sweets, and toys.
