Edition 2025 — 40 Years of Ustica MPA

In 2025, on the eve of its fortieth anniversary, the Ustica Island Marine Protected Area continued its work of protecting and promoting the sea. The reserve, the first in Italy, remained a benchmark for diving, scientific research, and sustainable tourism in Sicily, in the Municipality of Ustica.

Throughout 2025, the Ustica Island Marine Protected Area, established in 1986 as Italy's first marine reserve, continued its mission of safeguarding underwater ecosystems and enhancing the island's natural heritage in the Metropolitan City of Palermo.

With its protected zones, seabeds rich in dusky groupers, amberjacks, and barracudas, and numerous active diving centers, Ustica confirmed its role as the Italian capital of scuba diving in 2025, welcoming enthusiasts, researchers, and visitors. That year marked the eve of the major 2026 celebrations for the reserve's fortieth anniversary.
