About The Social Fest

The Social Fest is the social festival of the Rome II Municipality: a month of meetings, debates, book presentations, concerts, and performances in the Welcome Center garden, right in front of Tiburtina station. Promoted by Roma Capitale, it transforms a frontier area on the outskirts of Rome into a community space where the Third Sector, municipal social services, and local associations address topics such as migration, civil rights, gender-based violence, housing, and sustainability. Admission is free.

The social festival of the Rome II Municipality

The Social Fest is the event through which the Rome II Municipality, as part of Roma Capitale, brings the world of social work into the public square for an entire month. The festival takes place in the garden of the Welcome Center, at the hub of the Tiburtina station squareโ€”a transit and frontier location that, for a few weeks, transforms into a welcoming space for meeting, discussion, and community in the heart of the neighborhood.

The underlying idea is simple yet ambitious: to show that social work can create beauty, relationships, and culture. Surrounding the socio-health, educational, and institutional services operating in the area, the festival brings together Third Sector organizations, cooperatives, and volunteer associations that support families, young people, the elderly, migrants, and those in difficulty every day.

The themes at the heart of the festival

Each evening addresses a specific social issue, using accessible and concrete language. Recurring themes in the program include:

  • migration, integration, and foreign communities;
  • civil rights and the fight against gender-based violence;
  • environmental sustainability and the fight against food waste;
  • housing issues and policies;
  • employment, opportunities for young people, and training;
  • personal well-being, the elderly, and caring for the suburbs.

There is also a focus on inclusion and LGBTQ+ rights, with the Municipality participating in initiatives such as the Rome Pride.

A multidisciplinary program

The formula combines reflection with entertainment. In the late afternoon, debates, meetings, and book presentations take place; in the evening, the stage hosts concerts, theatrical performances, screenings, visual arts, fashion, and sports initiatives. The festival area features a food truck with various gastronomic options and a bar corner, allowing visitors to enjoy the evenings with the relaxed pace of a neighborhood festival.

Roma Capitale and the local area

Promoted by the Rome II Municipality of Roma Capitale, within the Metropolitan City of Rome and the Lazio Region, The Social Fest was born from the co-design between the municipal administration and the Third Sector entities that animate the Welcome Center, a reception desk for migrants and vulnerable individuals. Participation in all initiatives is free, as part of a project aimed at making the Tiburtina area a place of exchange rather than just a transit point.

The Social Fest โ€” edition 2026

The second edition of The Social Fest enlivened the Welcome Center garden in Tiburtina from May 24 to June 20, 2026: a month of debates, book presentations, concerts, and shows promoted by the Rome II Municipality. Inaugural evening on May 26, a family day on June 7, and a closing debate with Nicola Zingaretti on the Pact for the Mediterranean. Free admission.

The Social Fest 2026: the second edition

Following its debut in autumn 2025, The Social Fest returned for its second edition with a month of programming, from May 24 to June 20, 2026, in the garden of the Welcome Center at the Tiburtina station square. The festival, promoted by the Rome II Municipality of Roma Capitale, confirmed the formula that intertwines social commitment, culture, and popular celebration.

The inaugural evening was held on Tuesday, May 26, kicking off weeks of daily appointments: from the late afternoon, meetings, debates, and book presentations on major social issues; in the evening, from 9:00 PM, concerts, theatrical performances, screenings, and entertainment moments. On June 7, a day dedicated to families took place, with events, shows, and workshops. To close the month, a public debate with Nicola Zingaretti on the theme of the Pact for the Mediterranean, covering opportunities for young people, training, and sustainable investments.

Migration, civil rights, the fight against gender-based violence, sustainability, housing, work, and caring for the suburbs were the common threads of the evenings, animated by Third Sector entities and local associations. The edition saw a large turnout, showing how a frontier area like Tiburtina can become a welcoming place for exchange and community.
