About Pierino, the Wolf, and Other Adventures

An afternoon of music for the whole family at the Nicola Vaccaj Theatre in Tolentino: the FORM - Filarmonica Marchigiana Orchestra stages Peter and the Wolf and The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a symphonic fairy tale where each instrument becomes a character and every note tells a story. The program features Prokofiev's famous Peter and the Wolf and Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, guided by a narrator who accompanies young and old in discovering the orchestra.

A Symphonic Fairy Tale for All Ages

Peter, the Wolf, and Other Adventures is the family concert by the FORM - Filarmonica Marchigiana Orchestra, held at the Nicola Vaccaj Theatre in Tolentino, in Piazza della Libertà, in the heart of the historic center of the town in the province of Macerata, in the Marche region. It's an event designed to engage adults and children, where symphonic music becomes storytelling and the orchestra takes center stage.

The Musical Program

At the heart of the performance is Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev, one of the most beloved educational compositions ever: each instrument in the orchestra is associated with a character from the fairy tale, so the flute becomes the little bird, the clarinet the cat, the bassoon the grandfather, and the horns the wolf. Alongside Peter, the orchestra presents The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas, a symphonic poem inspired by Goethe's ballad, famous for its brilliant orchestration and driving rhythm.

On Stage

Conductor Nikolas Monti leads the Filarmonica Marchigiana from the podium at the Vaccaj, bringing out the character of each musical episode. Guiding the audience through the story is the narrator Lucia Paolozzi, who links the musical segments and accompanies spectators, even the youngest ones, in discovering the timbres and instruments of the orchestra.

Part of the Vaccaj Season

The concert is part of the 2025/2026 Season of the Nicola Vaccaj Theatre in Tolentino, titled "Behind the Mask," and is one of three events the FORM dedicates to the Tolentino audience, along with the Christmas Concert and the recital "Gran Piano." It's an opportunity to introduce families to great symphonic music in a historic theatre, in an accessible and engaging atmosphere. The Municipality of Tolentino collaborates in the realization of this initiative, which is part of the broader activities of the Filarmonica Marchigiana in the Marche region.
