About 50 Years of Passion of Christ

In Monte San Pietrangeli, in the Province of Fermo, the "50 Years of Passion of Christ" Photo Exhibition celebrates half a century of the oldest liturgical-dramatic representation in the village. Held at the San Giovanni Cultural Centre in Piazza Umberto I, from March 29th to April 11th, 2026, it gathers images, costumes, and memories of the participants who have staged the Passion and Death of Jesus in the streets of the historic Marche town since 1976.

Fifty Years of Passion Told Through Images

The "50 Years of Passion of Christ" Photo Exhibition is the display with which Monte San Pietrangeli, a small village in the Province of Fermo in the Marche region, celebrates half a century of its most beloved re-enactment. Since 1976, the Holy Friday Committee has continued the traditional liturgical-dramatic re-enactment of the Passion and Death of Jesus, one of the oldest religious events in the Marche territory.

The exhibition traces, through historical and more recent photographs, the evolution of a performance that involves hundreds of participants from the Municipality of Monte San Pietrangeli each year, dressed in Roman-Palestinian period costumes. The halls of the San Giovanni Cultural Centre thus become a journey through collective memory, where generations of inhabitants recognize themselves in the scenes re-enacted along the streets of the historic centre.

The Link with the Holy Friday Re-enactment

The exhibition is closely intertwined with the Passion of Christ, the historical re-enactment which in 2026 reaches its 48th edition and originates from the evocative bier of the Dead Christ by Luigi Fontana, created between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The photographic exhibition was created to capture fifty years of faces, rehearsals, sets, and processions over time, highlighting the value of a community that has made faith and popular participation its identity.

The Venue: the San Giovanni Cultural Centre

The exhibition is hosted in the San Giovanni Cultural Centre, in Piazza Umberto I, located within an ancient Renaissance church that now serves as an exhibition space and auditorium for the village. Its location in the monumental heart of Monte San Pietrangeli strengthens the dialogue between religious heritage, photographic memory, and community life.

When to Visit

The exhibition is open from March 29th to April 11th, 2026, in the period preceding and accompanying Holy Week, so as to ideally connect with the re-enactment of the Passion of Christ scheduled in the village. Organized by the Pro Loco of Monte San Pietrangeli, it represents an opportunity to discover a deeply rooted Marche tradition and to visit one of the most picturesque villages in the Valle del Tenna.

50 Years of Passion of Christ — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the photo exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of Monte San Pietrangeli's Passion of Christ. Held at the San Giovanni Cultural Centre from March 29th to April 11th, it accompanied the 48th edition of the Holy Friday re-enactment, scheduled for April 3rd, 2026, in the historic centre of the Fermo village.

The "50 Years of Passion of Christ" exhibition was held at the San Giovanni Cultural Centre, in Piazza Umberto I, from March 29th to April 11th, 2026. The photographic exhibition retraced half a century of liturgical-dramatic representation, from the establishment of the Holy Friday Committee in 1976 to the 48th edition in 2026.

The exhibition showcased historical and recent images of the participants, costumes, and scenes staged along the village streets, in ideal connection with the re-enactment of the Passion of Christ held on April 3rd, 2026. The initiative, curated by the Pro Loco of Monte San Pietrangeli, offered visitors an overview of one of the oldest religious traditions in the Marche region.
