The sacred music of Holy Week in the churches of Fermo
Meditazioni Musicali is the sacred music concert that every year, on the eve of Holy Week, brings together citizens and enthusiasts in one of the churches of the historic center of Fermo, in the Province of Fermo, in the Marche region. The event is part of the long tradition of I Concerti nel Chiostro, the review promoted by the Pier Alberto Conti Musical Association APS, a Fermo-based organization with over forty years of activity serving the musical culture of the area.
For the 35th edition, held on March 31, 2026, in the Church of Santa Lucia, one of the absolute masterpieces of 18th-century sacred music was chosen: Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, presented in a refined version for solo voices and organ. The twelve sections of the composition, alternating duets and arias, guided the audience through a journey of intense spiritual participation.
The sober and essential performance highlighted the emotional depth and extraordinary melodic beauty of the Stabat Mater, a piece capable of engaging even less experienced listeners and fully conveying the meditative atmosphere characteristic of the days preceding Easter.
The I Concerti nel Chiostro review is a fixture in Fermo's cultural calendar: created to enhance the city's spiritual sites – churches, cloisters, and historic spaces – it offers cultured and sacred music in settings of great architectural suggestion. The Pier Alberto Conti Association, active for over forty years, manages its organization with the support of the Marche Region and local institutions, contributing to making Fermo one of the musical capitals of the Fermano area.
For those visiting the Marche during Lent, Meditazioni Musicali is the ideal opportunity to combine the discovery of the Municipality of Fermo – with its Piazza del Popolo, Cathedral, and Roman Cisterns – with a moment of listening where history, faith, and art merge. Free admission makes the event accessible to all.
