Italy's best archery clubs compete in Belforte del Chienti
For two days, the medieval village of Belforte del Chienti, in the heart of the Province of Macerata and the Unione Montana dei Monti Azzurri, becomes the Italian capital of archery. The Italian Championship of Team Archery is one of the top competitions of FITARCO, the Italian Archery Federation: the best archery clubs in the country participate, competing for the national team title in the three Olympic and traditional divisions.
The format involves 32 teams competing, divided into 16 male and 16 female squads. Each team fields three main archers (plus reserves) who shoot at a distance of 25 meters in the Olympic (recurve) bow, compound bow, and barebow divisions. The competition starts with a round-robin group stage, from which the best teams advance to direct elimination matches leading to the semi-finals and finals for the title. It's an event that attracts national champions and top-level specialists from all over the peninsula.
The organization is entrusted to the Arcieri del Medio Chienti, a club rooted in the territory and presided over by Marco Feliziani, with nearly a hundred members: a remarkable proportion compared to the inhabitants of the small Marche municipality. Winning an Italian championship is therefore a prestigious recognition and an important challenge for the entire area, with the patronage of the Municipality of Belforte del Chienti and the Unione Montana dei Monti Azzurri, and the support of the FITARCO Marche Regional Committee.
Beyond the competition, the event is an opportunity to discover Belforte del Chienti, a village known for the famous polyptych by Giovanni Boccati housed in the church of Sant'Eustachio. The organizational machinery involves Civil Protection, local associations, and the municipal band, while typical local products are offered under the MagnaForte brand, to accompany the competition days with the flavors of the Macerata hinterland.
Considered by many to be the first major national outdoor event of the archery season, the competition brings hundreds of athletes, companions, and families to the Marche region, generating significant activity for the small municipality. A showcase that combines high-level sport, tradition, and territorial enhancement.
The 2026 edition, the XXIV in the event's history, was held at the Municipal Sports Field in Belforte del Chienti. The opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon saw the participation of civil authorities and the municipal band, in the presence of the national FITARCO president Vittorio Polidori and the president of CONI Marche Fabio Luna. Sunday featured the qualifying rounds, elimination matches, semi-finals, and finals for the awarding of the national team titles.
