A weekend to discover biodiversity along the Serio river
BioBlitz is an environmental education format that turns citizens into explorers and young naturalists for a day. As part of BioBlitz Lombardia, the regional initiative involving Lombardy's protected areas, the Serio Park offers a series of guided excursions, including a stop dedicated to Romano di Lombardia (Province of Bergamo).
In Romano di Lombardia, the event is an afternoon excursion winding between the Serio river and the G. Longhi Botanical Garden. Accompanied by local walking groups, participants explore the territory, observing, identifying, and cataloging the plant and animal species that inhabit the riverine environment and the botanical garden, thus contributing to the participatory biodiversity census of the park.
The BioBlitz of the Serio Park takes place over several days and in various locations in the Bergamo and Crema areas, with excursions dedicated to bats, springs, wild herbs, and riverine environments. The Romano stop is ideally linked to the Spring Festival which, during the same period, enlivens the G. Longhi Botanical Garden with workshops and inclusive activities.
Organized by the Serio Regional Park, the BioBlitz is more than just a walk: it is an experience of scientific citizenship that brings the public closer to the issues of biodiversity and environmental protection. A precious opportunity for families and enthusiasts to experience and understand the natural heritage of the Bergamo area.
In 2026, the BioBlitz Parco del Serio is part of the tenth edition of BioBlitz Lombardia (May 15-17). The Romano di Lombardia stop is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, May 16, with an excursion between the Serio river and the G. Longhi Botanical Garden.
